The Flying Fortress was a lot of fun to design. Of course all you comic book lovers realize that I ripped off - I mean was inspired by - Nick Fury's Helicarrier, but then most of my best ideas come from my love of comics.

Given the retro thing we were doing I wanted to detail the ship as if it were a seafaring vessel. All the details inside and out were done with that in mind. I love the industrial design of that era, chiefly the work of Raymond Loewy and Norman Bel Geddes. I tried to fold some of their influence in on these designs.
